Kessel Grease Separators
Grease Separators EasyClean - For A Clean Environment
In many commercial and industrial operations such as restaurants, hotels, motorway service areas, butchers or other food-processing plants, greases and oils get into the wastewater. This wastewater has quite a way to travel before it reaches the next sewage plant.Kess
A great deal of grease and food residue can become deposited in the drainage system along the way, leading to pipe blockages, corrosion and odour formation as well as problems with the operation of sewage plants and lifting stations. For this reason, legislation requires plants which produce greasy wastewater to install grease separators according to EN 1825!
The whole KESSEL range of polyethylene grease separators fulfils all the legal requirements for various installation situations:
Grease separators for free-standing installation
Grease separator EasyClean free
Grease separator EasyClean according to EN 1825 for free-standing installation inside buildings. Available in the nominal sizes NS 2 - NS 30.
Grease separator EasyClean Modular

Backwater - what is it?
All the outlet pipes from drainage fixtures in buildings (washing machines, showers, toilets, etc.) are connected to the sewer, forming a linked pipe system. If the wastewater cannot flow freely through the sewer e.g. after heavy rainfall or due to blockages in the sewer pipes, it is pushed back into the connected outlet pipes and can flood all the areas of the house which are below the backwater level, including any fixtures and furnishings etc.
Problem:
During heavy rain, the water level rises above the so-called backwater level. This term is usually used to mean street level. Rooms in the basement or cellar quickly become flooded.
Damage caused by ruined flooring, furniture or electric appliances, soaked household goods results in a great deal of hassle and costs for those living in the house.
Solution:
Draining systems such as floor drains, washing machines, sinks, showers (grey water) or toilets (black water), which are below the backwater level have to be protected effectively and permanently against backwater. Wastewater that flows through gravity fed pipes into the sewage system have to be protected by a backwater valve.
If the public sewage pipe is higher than the drainage spot, the wastewater must be pumped upwards via a fully automatic lifting station.
The wide range of KESSEL backwater valves complies with all legal requirements for different installation situations:
When to use a grease separator ?
Water is one of our most precious resources and is not available in unlimited quantities. For this reason, contaminated wastewater from kitchens must be pretreated and cleaned with the aid of appropriate separator systems before it is discharged to the public sewer system.
Grease separators should be installed in all locations where greases and oils from plant or animal origin are required to be removed from the wastewater stream. This applies to commercial and industrial applications, for example:
- Butchers, meat and sausage factories
- Pre-prepared meal production
- Slaughterhouses and meat preparation facilities
- Soap / stearin production plants
- Restaurants and fast food shops
- Fish production facilities
- Cooking oil refineries, butter / margarine production
- Frying facilities / nut roasting factories
- Cafeterias in commercial buildings, hospitals, universities, military bases and government agencies
KESSEL’s design based on EN 1825-1 and state of the art manufacturing provide grease separation systems surpassing all needs of the industry. The separators are available in a wide range of sizes and disposal methods to suit every business’ needs.
Kessel - Smart Select
SmartSelect – product selection with the golden touch
SmartSelect is an efficient tool for configuring, designing and calculating drainage solutions. It significantly reduces planning effort. SmartSelect provides registered users with a project management program which can be used to request and edit saved projects. Registration is free and takes only a few minutes !
Available modules
SmartSelect is used to determine the occurrence of soiled water and the loss of pressure in a pipe in just a few steps. The suitable pump and the right KESSEL product can be selected on the basis of the installation situation.
SmartSelect makes it possible to size and specify grease separators according to the norm by using up to three calculation methods. The estimated grease separator size and type as well as any desired accessories is determined with a few mouse clicks.
The New Hybrid Lifting Station Family
We have made the direct connection safe and reliable.
Constant running of a standard lifting station even with gravity sloped drainage. Why?
Lifting stations are often installed as a safety measure even though gravity sloped drainage is available. The disadvantage is that these systems must pump every single litre of collected wastewater. This leads to constant operation of the pumps, high energy usage, wear and tear on the system as well as nuisance noise - with the new KESSEL Hybrid Lifting Station, all these problems are solved.
The Pumpfix F and Ecolift XL Hybrid Lifting Stations offer safe and reliable protection against backwater and come into service only when necessary - during backwater. The Pumpfix F (for domestic applications) and the Ecolift XL (for industrial applications) are the new ideal solutions for installation in gravity wastewater drainage systems - both for new construction and renovations.
The direct connection saves energy
A standard lifting station must collect every litre of incoming wastewater and pump it into the sewer which is a constant use of valuable energy. The KESSEL Hybrid Lifting Stations function differently - they only activate when they are actually needed. This makes them much more ecological as well as economical - reducing energy and maintenance. The Pumpfix and Ecolift XL systems offer significant energy savings as well as reduce service and maintenance costs.
The direct connection is quiet
Despite modern mechanical components and noise insulation, operating pumps create noise and vibrations which are often considered to be annoying in applications such as homes, offices, hospitals or retirement homes. The new Hybrid Lifting Stations also offer a solution here - the pumps on the new Hybrid Lifting Stations operate only when absolutely necessary.
Reliable operation is of utmost importance for building drainage - even during power outages. The Pumpfix F and Ecolift XL Hybrid Lifting Stations provide this reliability and even function during power outages. Using natural gravity drainage, these new systems allow wastewater to freely flow to the sewer even during a power outage. This is not only a major advantage in domestic homes or apartments but also in commercial or industrial applications where an interruption of operation could lead to expensive down time costs.
Backwater Protection - Safety Redefined
Backwater damage is a threat to millions of homeowners and builders, and never has the damage caused by flooding and backwater been as costly as today. However, many builders and homeowners remain unaware of the fact that they can and must protect themselves from backwater. Local authorities and insurance companies require such protection. The current climate changes, bringing with them sudden torrential rainfall and flash flooding, especially in the summer months, require timely considerations regarding backwater protection. Professional and suitable backwater protection helps to maintain the value of properties and buildings in the long term. KESSEL is proactive in offering you support in both the clarification and consultation regarding the topic of backwater protection.
KESSEL sets standards in backwater protection
With the new premium backwater valve series Staufix SWA, Staufix FKA and Pumpfix F, KESSEL is setting standards in protection against backwater and flooded basements. This means that installation professionals and home owners both profit from a flexible modular system, innovative installation, operation and maintenance solutions and the very highest quality and safety of the KESSEL backwater valves.

Installation possibilities for backwater protection
On the one hand, backwater protection can be used for protecting individual drains (sink, cellar drain, emergency overflow etc.), on the other for the central protection of whole buildings or building sections, by using a backwater chamber for example. There are three different types of installation:
- Exposed installation
With exposed installation, the backwater valve or lifting station is installed as a so-called above-ground variant. This means connection to an exposed (“surface-mounted”) drainpipe. These installation solutions are particularly advantageous for renovation work.
- Installation in a concrete slab/floor
Particularly in the case of new buildings, flush installation in the building ground plate is an ideal solution. In addition to aesthetic aspects, the additional accommodation gained is a decisive advantage. For installation in waterproof concrete there are special gasket sets available to provide protection from the water load.
- Installation outside of buildings
The installation of a backwater valve or lifting station in a chamber outside the house is suitable both for new buildings and renovation work. In this case, it not only means an increase in accommodation space inside the building but also an increase in living comfort – especially by blocking out pumping noises completely.
